WBAP is celebrating DurgaPuja

Durga Puja is one of the most important Hindu festivals, primarily celebrated in
West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, and Bangladesh. It honors
Goddess Durga, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, as she triumphs over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. The festival typically spans
ten days in the month of Ashwin (September-October), with the last five days—
Sasthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Vijaya Dashami—being the most significant.
During Durga Puja, beautifully crafted idols of Goddess Durga, along with her children (Ganesha, Kartikeya, Lakshmi, and Saraswati), are installed in elaborately decorated pandals (temporary structures). The atmosphere is filled with devotional songs, traditional drum beats (dhak), and the scent of flowers and incense. People gather to offer prayers, participate in cultural events, dance, and enjoy traditional foods.
The final day,
Vijaya Dashami, marks the goddess’s departure to her celestial home, symbolized by the immersion of her idol in water. This festival not only reflects devotion but also celebrates art, music, community, and Bengali cultural heritage.
